ZooTampa at Lowry Park delightedly announced the newest addition to their family on March 31, with the arrival of an endangered Pygmy Hippo calf. Since her debut, the adorable calf has captivated zoo staff and visitors alike as she embarks on her world explorations. Now, the moment has arrived to unveil her name: Ruka, a Swahili term meaning “to hop.” At just over three weeks old, Ruka has been thriving under the watchful eye of her mother, Zsa Zsa, and has been steadily growing in confidence, particularly in her swimming abilities, marking another milestone in her journey.
