Honor Flight Syracuse marked a momentous occasion as they celebrated the remarkable 101st birthday of WWII veteran Isadore “Izzy” Bialek on Friday, April 5th. In a heartfelt gesture, Honor Flight Syracuse volunteer Mary Beth Bellardini paid a special visit to Izzy and his family at home, bringing the iconic HFS sign and cheerful balloons to commemorate the joyous milestone. Izzy’s service to his country during WWII speaks volumes, as evidenced by his numerous military honors, including the prestigious Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and WWII Medal Combat Infantry Medal. Notably, Izzy was also bestowed with the Insignia of Chevalier Legion of Honor, a testament to his pivotal role in the liberation of France.

Following his distinguished service, Izzy returned to central New York, where he pursued education, earning an accounting degree, and embarked on a lifelong journey with his beloved wife Frances, whom he married in 1948. The Honor Flight Syracuse community extends their heartfelt gratitude to Izzy for his unwavering dedication and sacrifices, wishing him a happy birthday filled with love and appreciation for his remarkable legacy of service.
